I firmly believe that the
kundalini experience is far more common than we tend to believe. The primary problem here tends to be that we don't have the terminology or the knowledge of it in our culture. When someone begins to experience the awakening of the
kundalini and their perceptions of the world begin to change then we immediately begin to do what Western doctors have done for over a hundred years. We give the seeker pills to help alter their perceptions so that they can once again be 'normal'.
Another thing that makes the
kundalini experience hard to recognize is the fact that it's different for everyone. Frequently when we start to experience the
kundalini and the developing of a greater awareness we try to look at the written sources and see what's happened to those who have gone before in the hopes that those earlier seekers will be able to shed some light on our current condition. There are some extremely good books out there by Gopi Krishna, Swami Satyananda Saraswati, Dr. Glenn Morris and a host of others.
Invariably you are going to read one of those books and think, "What's happening to me is different from what they experienced; therefore I must be having something other than a kundalini awakening", and you might be right.
On the other hand, it may be that your experience is simply different from theirs! It's important to remember that the kundalini is a uniquely personal experience and that it's different for everyone. It's up to you to decide what's happening to you and how to handle it, which is one of the reasons that I wrote this book. If you follow through with the exercises and essays that I've included then you should be able to easily handle the various experiences and energies that you'll encounter on this path.
